by a neighbor
My name is Leontine Osuagwu. I am absolutely ecstatic about what God is doing in this season! Awhile back, God gave me an assignment to the body of Christ called “Liberating Tamar”.
This ministry was birthed out of my own struggles with rejection, low self-esteem, anger and self-hatred (to only mention a few symptoms) after being sexually abused by a neighbor and physically and emotionally abused by family and friends. My heart was filled with anger, insecurity, rejection and feelings of worthlessness which led to depression and an overwhelming and an unhealthy desire to please everyone around me.
These emotional issues were threatening to destroy my relationships, my career and my health and my destiny but God revealed himself to me as a deliverer, a healer, a counselor and a comforter and I am delighted to share my story of victory with women around the world.
The name “Liberating Tamar” is inspired by the story of Tamar in the bible in 2 Samuel Chapter 13. Tamar was King David’s daughter. David was the second king of Israel. King David had eight wives and multiple concubines (book of chronicles). He had 19 sons and Tamar was his only daughter.
Tamar’s story like so many stories across the globe is a story of deception, betrayal, violation and rejection. She was raped by Amnon, her half-brother. Amnon fell in love with Tamar and with the evil counsel of his friend Jonadab decided to devise a vicious scheme to lure his sister into his tent and rape her.
This story truly exemplifies Jesus’ statement in John 10:10 “The thief comes only to steal, kill and to destroy”. The good news, however, is that the scripture does not end there. Jesus continues on to say that “He has come that we may have life and have it more abundantly”. Tamar was an emotional casualty who lived the rest of her life in desolation and sorrow but this does not have to be the lot of other women because God has made provision for them through his Word and through organizations such as Liberating Tamar.
I am excited about this assignment and I thank God for the opportunity to impact lives all over the world!
